BadgerScan Functional Guidance

How is data collected from a Badge?

BadgerScan captures contact information by using your device camera to read a two dimensional barcode. BadgerScan can read barcodes formatted as either PDF417 or QR Code. Within the PDF417 or QR Code, contact information is stored in a special standardized format called a vCard. All the data is encoded in the image – there is no need to connect to a server to download contact data.

Contact QR codes are easy to make and share. BadgerScan allows you to create your own virtual badge that you can quickly show to other people at any time. BadgerScan can also read printed contact QR Codes found on event badges or business cards.

When a new contact is scanned by BadgerScan, the contact information is stored in a private database on your device. You then have the opportunity to add notes, tag as a favorite, or launch a survey. If you have given BadgerScan permission to use your GPS position, the location where the contact was scanned and, if available, the event name will be added to the contact information.

You may choose to save a contact to your device’s native contact list, or perhaps you prefer to manage your professional contacts elsewhere. You can export one or all of your BadgerScan contacts as a CSV file via email so that they can be imported into other software.
