Article Review Types

Review articles are typically invited, but they may be submitted unsolicited. Reviews are intended to provide either an overview (e.g., mini-review and graphical review) or comprehensive coverage (e.g., full review) of a topic, including potential future directions. The use of illustrative figures and/or tables is encouraged.

Full Review: Abstract required. May be free-form or structured (e.g., Background, Content, and Summary), but must be limited to 250 words. The main text length should be around 2,500 - 5,000 words. Supplemental data permitted.

Mini-Review: No abstract required, but if desired by the author, free form is recommended; limit to 250 words. The main text length should be around 1,000 - 2,500 words. Supplemental data permitted.

Graphical Review: Abstract required. May be free-form or structured (e.g., Background, Content, and Summary), but must be limited to 250 words. Ideally, Graphical reviews summarize schematically key concepts, established and novel ideas in developments to improve clinical lab analysis which will be accessible to a broad audience and freely downloaded as PowerPoint slides for use in teaching or conference presentations.
