MSACL 2017 US: Conference Primer

Some of the highlights of what you need to know about the MSACL conference.

Dress Code

Business casual works, but whatever you are most comfortable in. The days are packed full of great content, but they are still long and you will want to be comfortable so you can focus on learning and networking. The highs will be around 55-65 F, the lows around 40-49 F. The Hospitality Receptions will be held half- inside (Santa Rosa) and half-outside (Rocks Terrace), depending on weather, every evening so you want a jacket, sweater. Additionally, we are planning to have at least one dining event poolside, lunch (12PM Tuesday). If we are lucky, we may have the closing BBQ dinner reception on the Rocks (4:30PM Thursday). The location of these may change if rain or cold is in the forecast.

Conference Registration Pick-Up & Information

Conference Registration will open on Sunday at 9 AM.

The Registration desk will be open from 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM everyday of the conference.

EXHIBITS ONLY registrants are NOT PERMITTED in the Scientific Sessions (except Plenary). Violations may result in registration revocation without refund.

Conference badges are NOT transferable.

Certificates of Attendance

Pick up your Certificate of Attendance at the registration desk. Please note that Certificates of Attendance will not be sent out after the conference. They are only valid when picked up by you at the conference and stamped with the Association seal.

Conference Program - Various Formats

(1) The Mobile Program

Intended for mobile devices with Chrome and Safari Browsers. After the initial database download onto your mobile device you can cruise the conference material, even with no internet connection. Like BadgerScan (the lead collection App), all the data is on your device -- take a note, it's private; make your agenda, it's private. Submit Feedback, not private, that goes to MSACL. If you have an Apple device, it has to be run on a Safari browser. If you have an Android device, it has to be run on a Chrome browser. If you are feeling bored, try to mix and match and let us know how it goes. Won't go well.

Plenary Lectures

Check out the Plenary Lectures.

Don't miss the Troubleshooting Grand Rounds. What a great way to interact with colleagues and hear and/or share about problems encountered in operation of mass spectrometers in a clinical setting.

Short Course Meals

Short Course registrants will receive a number of meal vouchers, dependent upon short course length, that can be used at the Date Restaurant for Breakfast (Mon 6-9 AM, Tue 6-8 AM) and/or Lunch (Mon 12-2 PM). Please note that lost vouchers are not replaceable, except by purchase.

Please note that dinner on Sunday night is On Your Own, although there will be a Hospitality at the Rocks Terrace or in the Santa Rosa room just down the hall from Rocks Lounge from 7-10 PM.

Q: What if I don't have a voucher, but want to eat in the restaurant?
A: You can purchase a voucher for $20 from an MSACL representative at the Restaurant entrance, or at the MSACL registration Desk, whether or not you are taking a short course.

Conference Meals

Tuesday
We will have an Opening Lunch from 12-2 PM on the pool patio (weather permitting, it looks like it should be fine, a little cool, but sunny; backup is California Ballroom). Poster Sessions and Troubleshooting Grand rounds in the late afternoon (4-5 PM) and early evening (6:30 - 7:30 PM) will provide light-heavy appetizers. If you desire a "proper" dinner, that will be On Your Own. The Hospitality event with drinks and appetizers will run from 7:30-10:00 PM at Santa Rosa, and maybe a bit at Rocks Terrace if not too cold and wet.

Wednesday
A light breakfast will be served from 6:45 - 8:00 AM. Lunch will be sandwiches, fruit and chips provided in the Exhibit Hall from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM. Troubleshooting Grand Rounds and Poster Session from 4:00 - 6:00 PM will include light appetizers and drinks. After the discussion groups from 6-7PM, we will have a Mexican Fiesta dinner from 7-8:30PM, that is currently planned for the California Ballroom and registration foyer, but if it is nice enough we may have it poolside or at Rocks Terrace (unlikely). This will be closely followed by the Occasionals as post-dinner entertainment in the California Ballroom. A separate, more subdued Hospitality event will be taking place at Santa Rosa from 8-10PM ( with overflow to Rocks Terrace, weather permitting).

Thursday
A light breakfast will be served from 6:45 - 8:00 AM. Lunch will be sandwiches, fruit and chips provided in the Exhibit Hall from 12:00 - 1:30 PM. A closing Backyard BBQ reception will be held at Rocks Lounge and surrounding (weather permitting; backup is California Ballroom) from 4:30 - 6:00 PM. Hospitality at Santa Rosa and Rocks Terrace will close out the event from 6:30-8:00 PM.

Yoga

Yoga will be from 6:00 to 7:00 AM in San Jacinto with Natalie Spear.

A limited number of yoga mats, blankets and blocks will be provided.

Corporate Workshops

Corporate workshops are held Wednesday and Thursday.

Don't forget on Wednesday these start at 7:00 AM. Light Breakfast starts at 6:45 AM in the Renaissance (California Ballroom) Foyer.

Lead / Contact Collection

BadgerScan(TM) is a Contact and Lead Retrieval App that is completely FREE.

BadgerScan allows users to:

(1) Collect contact info via scanning QR codes on attendee badges.
(2) Create and launch customized surveys.
(3) Share individual contacts between devices.
(4) Export contacts via email as a spreadsheet.
(5) Append notes and prioritize each contact.
(6) Create your own QR badge on the BadgerScan App to rapidly share your information with ANYONE who has BadgerScan.

The app does NOT require a network connection (except for use of the survey element).

The app never requires an in-app purchase for full functionality.

All contact info is stored on your phone, not on a server.

So if you have an Apple or Android device you're in luck. You can download the App and test it to see if you think it has any worth, and if it does, bring it to the conference and make it sing!

Download the App for Apple devices.
